I did a bit of research before settling on this camcorder. My requirements were that it had to be HD, and it had to have a large internal hard drive as I did not want to be buying and fumbling with memory cards all the time. This camera fit the bill and for a price substantially less than competitors.

It isn't the most fully featured camera, but then again some of the features of the higher priced cameras are things like "night shot". I had a camcorder in the past and the "night shot" feature was something I never used. Ever. So why pay for it now? Same for 100+ zoom. That zoom is typically digital, and as such, the picture is AWEFUL so why pay for some fantastic zoom number if the picture is going to be bad? In the end this camera has all the basic features you will need for the casual user. If you are a serious videophile you won't be considering a camera of this type regardless. For the target audience and casual user, this will work great - especially for the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, very capable, needs a far more robust battery, March 31, 2012

This unit is superb. I have no complaints about it other than the batteries you can buy for it are really lacking the power required for them to be truly compatible with the unit. This seems to be a pervasive problem in the camcorder market regardless of the manufacturer involved. To clarify the situation, there are two batteries you can buy for this unit. One is good for an hour of operation, the other is good for two hours of operation (the camera ships with the one hour battery); however, the hard disc in the camcorder will hold over 7 hours of 1080p video content with 5:1 stereo sound. When I'm out for the day with a camcorder I don't want to be bothered with having to change batteries several times a day (that's inevitably how you end up missing the great shots). They should make a 10 hour battery for this thing that is the same profile as the whole back of the camera. After seriously shopping-out the market I purchased an aftermarket battery that was supposed to be a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use. Great playback picture, September 13, 2012

This was purchased to use for our local football league to make DVD's of each players game. It is simple to use right out of box. Download software a little tough at first but nothing an average person could not do, just requires reading instructions. Be advised this will not work with a JVC DVD external burner. Picture and clarity is amazing on a blue ray player however beware you will need additional software if you are burning from this to a standard DVD format and you lose the clarity in the picture as well. Overall very happy with the purchase and if you have a blue ray player you will have nothing to worry about with the picture. Not to say the DVD format is bad but once you have seen the blue ray option you won't want to go back. One added feature we found useful is the pause button instead of record/stop feature the delay is not as long when using pause which helps for not missing the beginning of the next play.
