Today on Twitter, @kidambition asked about the Kodak Zi6 HD Pocket Video Camera and how it compared to the Flip Video Mino. I’ve done a few reviews of the Kodak Zi8 and the Kodak Zx1 in the recent past, so I thought I’d take a moment and talk about the Kodak Zi6.
This camcorder is extremely similar to the Flip Video Mino HD camera on a few points. They both shoot 720p HD video and both lack image stabilization.
The Flip series has built in USB adapter (so there are no cables). The Kodak Zi6 uses interface cable. The Kodak Zi6 also has removable rechargeable batteries, which is nice.. and the Flip Mino has to be charged via USB. The other advantage of the Zi6 is the ability to change the video quality (HD at 60 fps, HD at 30 fps, or VGA) and the super great advantage of having SD memory allowing you to store 32GB.
This is a good camcorder, but if you’re looking for image stabilization and true 1080p HD, I would look at the Kodak Zi8 as another option. Either way, this is very comparable to the Flip Video Mino HD.

The Kodak Zx1 HD Pocket camcorder is another “shoot and share” type mini-camcorder which are extremely popular. Similar to the Flip Video series, these cameras shoot in HD, but at 720p vs 1080p, and are extremely easy-to-use, basically point and shoot. This camera also has USB interface allowing for easy transfer of video footage to a computer/laptop. This particular camera has rubberized doors to protect all ports and is resistant to rain, snow, sand and dirt which is a nice feature.
Currently (September 25th, 2009) this camera is normally listed at $149.00, but is on sale for a great price of $119.82!!

So I’ve been on a kick of reviewing mini camcorders. I’m still on the quest for the best mini camcorder that is ideal for video blogging. So far, I’ve talked about the Flip Video HD Mino, Flip Video HD Ultra and the Sony Webbie MHS-PM1, and now I’d like to talk about the Kodak Zi8 HD Pocket Video Camera.
For starters, and to me this is quite big, it has image stabilization. That is HUGE. Both the Flip Video cameras and the Sony Webbie do not have the stabilization. The other improvement is that it can function in low light environments. Additionally it shoots high definition video up to 1080p at 30 fps with 16:9 aspect ratio, it also boasts an expandable SD/SDHC card slot for up to 32 GB of additional memory; removable rechargeable batteries; a cordless, swing-out USB arm for uploading and a vibrant 2.5–inch viewfinder.
One issue to think about is that Kodak recommends 2.8gz processor to edit the 1080p HD files. This could be a limitation to some of the users out there. It is also recommended to upgrade to a larger memory card, since the card that comes with the camera can handle the onboard OS alone.
It’s also important to note that this camera will be available on September 15th!
