So, poking around Amazon this morning, I found a page discussing price drops on select Sony Camcorders. I’ve been eyeballing a few Sony Handycams, so I was very interested. There are some MAJOR deals going on here.

Sony DCR-SR47 (silver, blue and red) which normally lists at $399.99 is on sale for $335.74
Sony DCR-SR87 which normally lists at $499.99 is on sale for $408.99
Sony HDR-CX100 AVCHD red, black and silver (I recently posted about this camcorder) is on sale for $491.80
Sony DCRDVD850 which normally lists at $429.99 is on sale for $369.00

So to get in the spirit of Halloween a friend of mine contacted me and asked what would be a good camcorder for ghost hunting. I thought this was a odd question, but quite interesting, so I start to look around for him. The requirements for a good ‘ghost hunting’ camera is a camera with night shot. Apparently Sony’s are the only camera around that have Night Shot, please correct if I’m wrong, but it surely seems like it.

The next factor to include is the camera is capable to have extended IR (infrared) lighting available and what media it records it video too. You can record to tape, DVD, harddrive or flash media. Since price was a factor, tape was the cheapest, and I found the Sony DCR-HC52 MiniDV Handycam Camcorder. Oddly I reviewed this a few months ago (not ghost hunting related).

This is a great little camera. Here is where they have to say about the NightShot feature:

NightShot Plus Infrared System In low-light environments, the NightShot Plus Infrared System lets you shoot color video with a less greenish tint than previous infrared systems.
